Tibet Airlines passenger plane catches fire during takeoff in southwestern China

A Tibet Airlines aircraft caught hearth after skidding off the runway within the southwestern Chinese language metropolis of Chongqing on Thursday morning.

All 113 passengers and 9 crew members had been “evacuated safely,” the airline stated in an announcement. Greater than 40 passengers with minor accidents had been taken to hospital, based on an announcement from the Chongqing Jiangbei Worldwide Airport.

“According to the flight crew, the plane experienced an anomaly during takeoff. They stopped the takeoff following the procedures,” the CAAC stated.

“After the plane skidded off the runway, the engine scraped the ground and caught fire. (The fire) has been extinguished.”

The flight was certain for Nyingchi in Tibet. Footage posted on Chinese language social media exhibits flames engulfing the entrance of the plane and a plume of black smoke billowing within the sky. One other video exhibits passengers working from the airplane.

The reason for the accident is beneath investigation and flight operations on the airport have returned to regular, the airport stated.

The flight schedule exhibits the plane is an Airbus A319 that had been in service with the airline for 9 and a half years.
