Pete Carroll jumped a sinking ship at USC to join the Seattle Seahawks back in 2010.

He remains in the job to this day and has one Super Bowl title to his name.

That alone, and the fact he has taken the Seahawks to the playoffs nine times, helps ensure some great job security.

Whenever the Seahawks are rumored to be approaching a down year, they seem to do well.

Having Russell Wilson at quarterback is a major reason for Carroll’s longevity and the head coach said as much himself.

Carroll was talking about Wilson’s current absence when he said this:

“Let’s say it this way: I’ve been here a long time, and if we didn’t have Russell, I probably wouldn’t have been here a long time,” Carroll said, according to “Because of all, think of all the magic that he’s created in the years. He’s got numbers and stats and fourth-quarter thises and thats, and all that stuff.”

Carroll is right in that he may have been gone years ago if Wilson was not his quarterback.

The One Knock On The Head Coach

The veteran coach oversaw one of the biggest blunders in NFL history and it involved Wilson.

That came back in Super Bowl XLIX when instead of punching in a touchdown with Marshawn Lynch to win back-to-back titles, Carroll allowed a pass to be called.

Wilson threw an interception and the rest is history.

That moment alone could have led to Carroll being fired.

But Wilson never stopped working hard and the team continued to make the postseason after the blunder, even if the core has seen countless changes since then.

Tough To Win Without Wilson

The Seahawks just lost an ugly game Monday night to the New Orleans Saints by a final score of 13-10.

Geno Smith only accounted for 167 yards through the air and the loss dropped Seattle to 2-5.

Obviously, Smith in there for Wilson is a huge negative factor.

So even if the Seahawks struggle this year, Carroll’s job security may remain strong given the fact his star is out.
