Man shocked to find carpet python snake on bathroom door

A Brisbane man has received a shock after finding a carpet python on his bathroom door in the middle of the night.

Cafe manager Corey Heaton from Carindale said he had gotten up to go to the bathroom around 12.45am on Friday when the small python caused him to jump.

“I went to go to the bathroom, washed my hands, went to open the door and there was a snake’s tail hanging out from behind the calendar,” Mr Heaton said.

“We haven’t had a snake in the house for over 10 years so I was a bit frightened. I did jump back.”

He then woke up his brother, and the pair called two snake catchers, who both refused to come due to Corey having COVID-19.

“We went and tried to get rid of it ourselves to no avail and after that called a snake catcher,” Mr Stokes said.

“They weren’t stoked to come to house.

“They said it’s just a small carpet snake, you can lock it in the room or try catch with pillow case and stick. We tried that and it didn’t go very well.”

Mr Stokes said his brother tried to catch the python, but the snake lunged at them, refusing to be caught.

On advice from the snake catchers, they opened a window and sealed off the door with sellotape, before going back to bed around 3 am.

The snake then made its own exit out the window.

Mr Stokes advised those who find themselves in similar situations to stay calm, and seek out the advice of professionals.

“I’d be methodical about it. If anything don’t make any stark decisions without advice.”
